Born 1933, educated at Marlborough College, Strasbourg University and St. John’s College Oxford. Studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art. Served in the Foreign Office from 1956 - 1974, mostly in the Middle and Far East. Retired in 1974 to live in Cornwall, and now lives near Coverack on the Lizard Peninsular. He held a one - man show in Rawlpindi, Pakistan, in 1968. Exhibited paintings at the Living Arts Exhibition in Belfast, 1972, and at the Royal Irish Academy the same year. In 1989 he was the subject of a half - hour documentary on Channel 4. Andrew Johnstone is now shown regularly by Gordon Hepworth Fine Art at the Annual Art Fair, Islington London and 20th Century British Art Fair and with The Merriscourt Gallery, Oxfordshire, Cadogan Contemporary London.
